Start by choosing a universe, learning your champion's starting attack and collecting experience without trapping yourself in the swarm. Build toward one coherent weapon-and-passive combination, then review Objectives and future-run upgrades after the attempt. These are practical learning priorities based on the documented systems, not a tested fastest route or guaranteed winning build. The official game description establishes the weapon, progression and unlock loop behind this Warhammer Survivors beginner guide.
Choose a universe before a build
Warhammer Survivors draws from Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Their champions and equipment contexts differ, so begin by identifying which side you are playing. The October demo names three champions in each universe, with some available through unlocks rather than immediately. A fresh selection menu should therefore not be compared with a later player's complete demo roster.
The characters guide identifies those names and starting weapons. Use it to understand what your first attack is doing, rather than to assume a universal best starter. A Chainsword, Lasgun and Brazier Staff are different equipment identities with different combinations to learn. Your initial goal is to recognize the system you are using before trying to reproduce someone else's whole loadout.
Learn the attack pattern while moving
Early attempts are useful for observing how your weapon attacks as you navigate the arena. Watch the space around your champion and look for open lanes instead of committing to a narrow escape route too late. Experience and upgrades support the run, but an item is less useful if reaching it leaves no retreat. This is positioning advice drawn from the survival loop, rather than a hidden mechanical requirement.
The hands-on preview describes experience, unlocks and permanent coin upgrades. Those systems give a reason to keep learning even when an attempt ends. Do not assume an early death means every useful part of the session is lost. Separate the immediate question of staying alive from the wider question of what your account or current demo has unlocked.
Understand weapons, passives and pick-ups
A base weapon supplies an attack that can be upgraded or evolved. A companion passive is a separate equipment choice used in reported evolution combinations. Temporary field pick-ups are another category again, with effects described in the official pick-up explanation. Recognizing the category matters more than choosing an item because its name resembles another guide's recommendation.
Dice Cube and D6 Dice illustrate the problem clearly. Dice Cube is the passive used in reported Boltgun and Boltstorm Pistol recipes, while D6 Dice is a separate weapon. Picking one should not be described as holding the other. The weapons guide organizes these categories so that recipe instructions refer to the item you actually have.
Make one evolution plan understandable
Official text confirms that weapons combine with power-ups to evolve. October demo players report holding the matching passive, maximizing the base weapon and then collecting a boss chest. Those reports are a useful versioned guide, not a universal promise for every release build. The evolutions table keeps the pairs and their demo scope together.
For a learning run, compare upgrades with the combination you are trying to understand. A known example is Boltgun with Dice Cube leading to Heavy Bolter in the October reports. That does not mean Dice Cube works with every weapon or that the next chest always produces your chosen result. Avoid substituting a fixed minute or an invented passive-level threshold for the conditions the sources actually describe.
Read status effects before treating them as pure benefits
The developer's status-effect explanation says Burning and Poisoned both deal damage over time. Burning makes affected enemies move faster, while Poisoned slows them. Oiled increases vulnerability to fire. These interactions mean that an effect can change positioning as well as damage.
An enemy moving differently can alter the space you need around your champion. Consider that consequence before assuming every damaging status makes the same situation easier. The same official material connects Frenzon with Berserk and faster attacks. It does not establish a universal best status combination or a numerical damage multiplier for every build, so this guide does not invent one.
Treat field pick-ups as their own decisions
The official pick-up material distinguishes effects across the two universes. A Melta-Bomb explodes after a delay, some enemies resist Blast Template instant kills, and Purple Sun can damage the player. These are concrete reasons to learn what a field item does before treating it as automatically safe. The source is the developer's pick-up explanation, not a comparison of untested item rankings.
Temporary effects are also different from persistent weapon and passive selections. A dramatic screen effect should not be mistaken for completing an evolution recipe. Keep the item you collected, its immediate consequence and your equipped loadout separate in your notes. That makes later troubleshooting more precise than remembering only that a large explosion happened during a run.
Approach rescues with room to retreat
The researched previews describe character rescues and unlock objectives. Their presence gives exploration a purpose beyond following the nearest experience drop. A practical approach is to look at the surrounding enemies before moving toward a guarded objective. Keeping a retreat lane is an editorial survival priority rather than a claim about an exact rescue trigger.
Do not assume that seeing a champion in footage means the same character is already selectable on your save. Unlocks, starting choices and equipment followers are different systems. The official squad explanation shows why an eligible ally may appear to carry a weapon during a run. That visual is not, by itself, evidence of a completed permanent character unlock.
Review the run through Objectives and progression
After an attempt, read the wording of the current Objectives screen. Distinguish a weapon-rank requirement from a champion-level requirement, and a single-run condition from a cumulative task. The objectives guide explains how to identify the reward and the selected universe. It avoids turning secondary checklists into an unverified complete launch task count.
The official game description says gold improves future runs and paint pots unlock forms and secrets. Those are progression systems, not a reason to assume every reward crosses into another product. Auroch explicitly says the demo's progress will not transfer to the full game. Learn the loop now if you enjoy it, while planning for that separate release boundary.
Keep the demo version attached to advice
The October demo adds champions, rebalancing and quality-of-life changes. The Next Fest announcement therefore provides a more relevant context than treating all May footage as current. Some older recipe advice is corrected by later demo reports. A build label helps you decide whether two pieces of guidance are actually describing the same game state.
Use this guide as an order of decisions: learn the starting attack, collect experience safely, understand an evolution, approach objectives and review what unlocked. Move to a focused recipe page when a particular item becomes the question. The research was checked November 8, 2026, without a claim of first-hand release testing. No fastest gold route, fixed boss timer or guaranteed first-run victory is promised.
