Dice Cube is the companion passive reported for two October-demo evolutions: Boltgun into Heavy Bolter and Boltstorm Pistol into Typhoon Crossbow. It is a different item from the D6 Dice weapon. The pairings are corroborated by October player recipes and dated discussion replies, while the official April reveal independently identifies D6 Dice as a weapon. Check the item name before following an unlock or evolution instruction.
Dice Cube and D6 Dice are different items
The similar names are the first thing to resolve. The recipe reports use Dice Cube as a companion passive, while the developer names D6 Dice as an attack weapon. Those roles are not interchangeable. Selecting the weapon is not evidence that the passive required by a recipe is equipped.
This matters both when reading an unlock task and when reviewing a current run. A task referring to D6 Dice concerns that named weapon rather than automatically describing Dice Cube's effects. Likewise, an equipment choice with a familiar dice name should be matched to its actual label. The weapons guide explains the broader distinction between attacks, companions, evolved forms and field pick-ups.
| Item | Role established in the research | Recipe implication |
|---|---|---|
| Dice Cube | Companion passive in October reports | Used with Boltgun and Boltstorm Pistol |
| D6 Dice | Weapon named by the developer | Not a substitute for the Dice Cube passive |
The Boltgun evolution use
The October player table pairs Boltgun with Dice Cube to produce Heavy Bolter. The April developer reveal is useful for distinguishing D6 Dice from the passive, while the separate Boltgun result is confirmed in the official survivor material linked by the focused guide. The companion requirement is still identified as October demo player evidence. It should not be relabelled as a universal release-build rule.
The reported sequence is to hold the companion, maximize the base weapon and collect a boss chest. The Boltgun walkthrough gives that procedure its own page. It also distinguishes base-weapon development from champion level and avoids a guaranteed chest minute. Use this page to identify the passive, then use the recipe page for the weapon-specific sequence.
The Boltstorm Pistol evolution use
The same October recipe reports pair Boltstorm Pistol with Dice Cube to produce Typhoon Crossbow. This is a separate base weapon from Boltgun. Sharing the companion does not make the base attacks or evolved results interchangeable. Keep the three names together when deciding which line you are trying to complete.
The evolutions table shows both rows side by side. That table is more useful than remembering only that a dice item belongs somewhere in a ranged build. It also prevents Dice Cube from being incorrectly assigned to every ranged weapon. Lasgun, for example, has a different reported companion in the October material.
Unlocking, obtaining and using are three questions
Unlocking an equipment option concerns whether it can be available to your current progression state. Obtaining it during a run concerns what you actually select or collect. Using it for evolution concerns the correct combination with the base weapon. These are separate stages of the question, even when a short guide compresses them into one sentence.
An unlocked option is not a guarantee that the next level-up will offer it. The supplied material does not establish a fixed offer chance or guaranteed drop rate. It also does not establish a universal shortcut that bypasses the current universe's unlock context. Read the current Objectives screen before treating a secondary unlock claim as a confirmed instruction.
Why exact unlock thresholds are omitted
The source pack contains secondary leads about different universe-specific conditions. It explicitly says those thresholds are not developer-confirmed in the inspected material. They are therefore not reproduced here as factual steps. A precise number is not useful if the evidence does not establish it for the build you are playing.
Instead, identify the selected universe, the exact reward name and the wording of its current objective. Distinguish an item-availability condition from the weapon and passive needed during a recipe attempt. The objectives guide explains that reading process without inventing a complete launch checklist. This is a clearer answer than presenting an unresolved community lead as a guaranteed unlock route.
What the passive's recipe role does not prove
The corroborated reports establish Dice Cube's use as a companion in the two named recipes. They do not establish a verified numerical percentage for every effect. The source research also rejects unsupported claims that the item inherently supplies luck or critical chance. Those extra descriptions are not added to make the item sound more powerful.
The same care applies to the result of a chest. Carrying Dice Cube is one part of the reported recipe, not a guarantee that any chest produces the desired evolution. Check the actual base weapon and its state as well. A result should be identified by its equipment name rather than inferred from the fact that more projectiles or another attack appeared on screen.
Followers and equipment compatibility
The official squad explanation uses Keywords to decide which champion can carry a weapon. An incompatible selection can recruit an eligible follower. This describes the weapon-carrying system, not a reason to merge Dice Cube and D6 Dice. The passive and the attack remain distinct equipment identities regardless of who visibly performs an attack.
Followers also cannot take damage or collect items according to that source. Their appearance is not proof of another player, a permanent character unlock or a passive being collected on your behalf. When checking a recipe, use the equipment actually held during the run. The visible squad alone does not replace an inventory check.
Avoid using Dice Cube with the wrong recipe
The October table gives Lasgun the Gauntlet companion. It gives Whirlwind Battery and Brazier Staff Liquid Green Stuff. Those examples show why recognizing one useful passive should not lead to treating it as a universal solution. The correct partner belongs to the exact base weapon named by the recipe.
Use Lasgun evolution for Meltagun and rocket evolution for the Whirlwind Battery line. Use Heavy Bolter to distinguish the ordinary result from Heavy Bolter Fidelis. These pages resolve different equipment questions rather than repeating the same dice explanation. Clear names make troubleshooting more practical than a guessed effect or level requirement.
Keep the October-demo scope attached
The Steam listing confirms the broader weapon-and-power-up evolution system. The specific Dice Cube pairings here come from the dated demo reports. The full release's inventory and unlock parity were not tested by this research. That scope remains important when comparing a current guide with older footage or future release information.
The developer also says demo progress does not transfer into the full game. Unlocking or using the passive in the trial is therefore not a promise that it starts available at launch. This page reflects research checked November 8, 2026. It supplies the supported identity and uses while omitting unverified unlock thresholds, numerical stat claims and guaranteed offers.
